Half

So I am a lazy ass. I have not ran in a week. Josh bought me new shoes for an early Christmas gift, but the gym is closed this week and next week for the holidays and I am a wimp so I don't want to run outside. I'm pretty sure I can bring myself to run outside tomorrow and Thursday. Tomorrow I have no excuses (tonight I'm going down to Onsted) and Thursday (Christmas Eve) I'm only working a half day and I have no plans so there is no reason I can't fit in a jog.
I also haven't been doing very well with my ab workouts. I did a little last night.
I could just say screw it until after the new year, but I don't want to. Plus, I can't wait that long to use my new shoes!

One mile, then 4 half mile repeats at around 4 minutes. I'm a slow ass :) But it felt good and no matter how bad I wanted to just stop, I didn't.

Today felt great!

Yay! 3 miles on the treadmill! And it was faster than my 5k last week, although I was on a treadmill with flat terrain the whole way... just trying to be positive :)
I stretched, abs, a little bit of arms and then the eliptical for 30 minutes. Very successful workout! I felt so good. I meant to go 4 miles but I just can't seem to pace myself. The farther into the run I get the more I think, ok I need to go faster because this is what I'm on pace for and that is ass slow. So I speed up and then am too exhausted to finish. What I need to accept is that I am ass slow right now :) I'm training for a MARATHON, not a 5k. But... maybe I do need to seriously focus on smaller races right now. I have almost a year until the marathon. It's just 26.2 miles is SOOOO far! I'm scared! lol
I've been researching different marathons in Florida and came across this one:

It doesn't seem like there are many marathons planned in Florida for the fall, but I'm thinking that is because that is still a ways away :)

Tomorrow is another day...

I was totally going to go to the gym and run 4 miles but then I realized there was no way I was running 4 miles on a treadmill without some tunes. But, my ipod was dead... so, what a great reason not to run?
Ugh.
It was still a productive night because I downloaded a crapload of songs I've been meaning to and recharged my ipod, re-synced it.
There will be ab-work done before bed.

Thanks Ash :)

I was totally just going to stay in and play WoW and maybe do a few sit ups but then I read Ashley's blog (my marathon partner) from Monday and I knew I couldn't. She did 4x1 mile repeats. I need to get my ass in gear! So, I ran. Not far, a little over a mile, but very fast because it was COLD!!! 27 degrees F, 12 degree wind chill, 42 mph wind! Yea... it was a short run :)
I just looked up one of Britney Spears' ab workouts and I'm totally going to do it. It's so simple but it's going to kick my ass. Yes! I want to do it 3x a week. I can do it!

This is it:
crunches x 50 reps
side crunches x 25 reps on each side
bicycle crunches x 50 reps
hip thrusts x as many as you can!

They were very specific in the video about how to do these. Keep your shoulders off the ground (except hip thrusts), pause at the top of each crunch, don't rock, keep your eyes on the ceiling.

12/5/09 Holiday Hustle 5k

Yesterday I ran my first 5k in awhile. It felt great! My lungs were actually pretty good, but the rest of my body was very tired.

A LOT of room for improvement but my goal was under 35 min and I accomplished that. Next up: Jackson's New Year's Eve run "Eve on the Ave".
I used to run it every year in high school, it was a BLAST. It doesn't start until 10pm so that's kind of a bummer, but we will still have time to get ready and go somewhere for the ball drop. When I say "we" I mean Josh and I. He really wants to run one too. So very exciting :) I'm sending him the link to the website right now.
No running today, just going to relax, maybe take a nap and play computer games. I'll be up in the a.m. for a run though. I have a lot of work to do before my next race. I'm going to aim for under 30 minutes, definitely do-able.

Chill-ay!

Very cold and rainy but I ran! Not much. Josh, Caitlin and I ran to the liquor store, well we walked quite a bit too. But, brisk-ley :)
I actually felt good.
Maybe will do situps and push ups... buuuuttt... probably not because Josh is making me a screwdriver :)

Win!

Yes! I ran! And it was cold! But oh so good. Maybe I didn't run as far or as well as I'd hoped, but I have lots of time for improvement. Only did maybe a mile and a half and, yes, I walked some of it *sigh*. It was on my boyfriend's grandparent's golf course, lots of hills!
I keep reading all these runner horror stories about people running too hard in the winter and getting lung and respiratory infections that last for months! The one piece of advice I keep hearing is to take lots of breaks when running in cold weather, at least until you can build your lungs up. And I definitely took breaks today. Oh well, trying not to get down on myself. It took a long time for me to get this out of shape, it's going to take me awhile to get back into shape.
Josh ran with me and almost stepped on a opossum, it was playing opossum. Seriously.
Probably not running in the a.m., I have to get up early and drive an hour to work. I came back to my hometown to visit my grandma who is in the hospital. Going back to Ann Arbor tomorrow, working, going to secretary of state, and then RUN. Possibly with Megan.

Fail.

I woke up this morning to run at 6:45am. I got up and felt good. Then, I realized that I'm still missing my apartment keys. So, instead of going and running and being locked out (because my room mate would have still been sleeping), I decided to go back to bed. And now I'm exhausted. I would have felt so great all day if I would have just ran. I don't know. It's always stuff like this that happens and keeps me from running.
It's supposed to be a nice day today (a whole 45 degrees! lol), so I plan on running after work.

Here we go again...

Yet another attempt at motivation, but this time I have a partner in crime. An old friend from high school and my better running days has agreed to run a marathon in November 2010. That's what this blog is about.
I have struggled for almost 7 years to get back into shape and run consistently, because yes I'm one of those "crazy" people that love to run. I set goals, A LOT of goals, but somehow I always get distracted or lazy or make A LOT of excuses. It needs to stop. It IS stopping. Right now. I'm tired of it.
After I'm done with this blog I'm going to make myself some kind of motivational sign and post it right next to my bed because I've settled on the idea that the only way I'm going to run consistently is if I do it in the a.m. I am just too busy! I will take a picture of said motivational sign and post it on here. Also, I'm going to find some pics of me in my better shape days and post them as well. Hopefully that will be helpful.
So, no miles today. I registered for a 5k that is this Saturday. Tomorrow morning I WILL run.
